Space

AMOS is active in the design, development and manufacture of space instrumentation – both mechanical and optical support equipment – either terrestrial or in-space.

A significant example is the small three-mirror anastigmat telescope developed for the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) and in orbit on the Meteosat satellite. Meanwhile, on the ground, multiple collimators of up to 1 m diameter have been supplied to the European space industry and to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The company is currently developing the three telescopes for the European Proba-V satellite, and has been selected by Spacebel to provide the instrumentation for the hyperspectral and panchromatic payload of the Vietnamese VNREDSat-1b satellite.

AMOS also develops thermal vacuum space simulators for the validation of space hardware, including those now operating in Europe (Estec, CSL, etc.) and in India (ISRO-SAC). The company is currently developing new systems for the Indian ISRO-VSCC space centre. These simulators are described more fully in the ‘Vacuum and Cryogenics’ section below.

 ON FOCUS - Diamond Turning

Advanced Mechanical and Optical Systems (AMOS) manufactures small optical pieces by diamond turning mainly for infrared applications but also, after post polishing, for visible or ultraviolet. Concave or convex mirrors up to 500mm can be machined with extreme asphericities....
