project 3.6m Mirror cell – ARIES

3.6m M1 active mirror cell for ARIES telescope

AMOS was awarded the contract for the design, manufacturing, assembly, tests and on-site installation (in Devasthal site at 2540m altitude) of the 3,6m Optical Telescope for ARIES (Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences), Nainital (India).
AMOS provided the complete telescope, including the M1 mirror cell. It is an active cell where 69 pneumatic actuators dynamically correct the shape of the mirror in order to compensate for the structural deformations during the movement of the telescopes or due to temperature variations. This allows to use thinner and thus lighter mirrors.
