A Unique Liquid-Mirror Telescope sees first light in the Indian Himalayas!

While most telescopes use solid mirrors to look at the sky, Indian, Canadian and Belgian scientists decided to develop a liquid mirror telescope for looking at the sky: the International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT). The prowess of this concept is to shape a liquid mercury surface in a perfect mirror parabola using a rotating bowl.
AMOS contributed in the project in designing and manufacturing the telescope, based on the concept elaborated by the scientific project partners.

The first light of the telescope was achieved last month.
The ILMT is located North of India, at the ARIES observatory in Devasthal.

Congratulation to the Indian teams, the Canadian teams and Belgian teams for this success!
